Question 7 - Evaluation of these businesses

7. Our group evaluation of these businesses

(a) Our group opinion and why you selected these two places

33 economic rice, Pu yi yang economic rice or Xin Rong Ji, no doubt those who stay in Kampar for more than 1 month will be familiar with those places in Kampar new town area. We believe every student who used to dine in those restaurants in new town would like to try something new and special in old town. Don't worry, we will provide you guys the solution shortly.

In our opinion, we choose Yau Kee Restaurant as one of our blog writing restaurant. This is because Yau Kee Restaurant is accessible for every student in Kampar whether you possess a car, a motorcycle or even a bicycle. We say this because our group has try walking to Yau Kee Restaurant from Westlake and it only takes us around 35 minutes.

Besides that, we will choose Tuck Kee Restaurant because it is well-known for its noodles. Tuck Kee Restaurant has been operating for more than 50 years and it provides a wide variety of noodles. As our group members are all noodles fan, Tuck Kee Restaurant is a must-go place.

(b)  Its classification of e-commerce by the nature of the transactions or interactions

Yau Kee is considered as a brick and mortar organization. They operate their business in a way where customers go to their shop and order food. They will then provide physical food to their customers. Thus, we can say that the Yau Kee is operating a brick and mortar business as their customers have to go to their physical shop to purchase their food.

The nature of transaction of Yau Kee’s business is classified as business to consumer (B2C). This is because they sell food directly to their customers that come to visit their shop. Thus, there is a direct linkage between the business and their customers. Therefore, it is proven that Yau Kee is using business to consumer (B2C) to conduct their business.

Tuck Kee is a considered as a brick and mortar organization that carries out their business offline. The company has a physical presence which is its shop and it provides food to its customers face to face. This shows that the company is running a brick and mortar business.

Next, considering its nature of transaction, we can classify Tuck Kee as using business to consumer (B2C) to conduct its business. This can be proven as Tuck Kee directly sells its food to its customers that make walk-in visits to its shop. Hence, we can say that Tuck Kee sells food directly to its customer in a retailing relationship. Besides that, the physical presence of the shop also supports the use of B2C of Tuck Kee in conducting its business.

(c) Its business models

The business model used by Yau Kee Restaurant is viral marketing. This is because it is promoted by the local people through word of mouth. In order to use this business model, Yau Kee is well established since it is established in 1983 and known among local community. Hence, it does not have to spend any cost on advertising as it facilitates their customers to spread the marketing message. After talking to some of the customers and local people, we learned that all the local people knows about the famous chicken bread and they are willing to talk about and share information such as the history and the location of the shop. Hence, this puts Yau Kee Restaurant at a very good position as the local people are helping them to do their advertisement free of charge. Besides that, with electronic word of mouth like customer posting photo of their experience online on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, it can cover a huge geographical area since friends from all over the world can see it. Revenue Model Yau Kee is using is sales of goods and services. With this, they provide us good service like filling up our tea often besides providing scrumptious food.

Viral marketing is a marketing technique that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message via word of mouth. Tuck Kee has good history since 1963 and has differentiated food as mentioned in value proposition which ensure the success in using this business model. From our conversation with those customers there, almost everyone who resides in Ipoh knows about Tuck Kee. Furthermore with the effect of viral blogging done by bloggers who dine in Tuck Kee or food hunt in Ipoh, people from all over Malaysia who visited Ipoh will be aware of the presence of Tuck Kee. A high rating implies that the customers that had visited the shop are happy with the food and service. The Facebook page is usually managed by the workers of Tuck Kee. This enables them to communicate directly with their customers providing them information about their business. This approach benefits both the vendors and customers. The vendor is able to save a tremendous amount of advertising cost as all they have to do is to create a Facebook page which is easy and free.

On the other hand, the customers can easily provide their comments and opinions regarding the shop to the public. By reviewing the customers’ comments, Tuck Kee will be able to improve and enhance its business to ensure that they are able to satisfy their customers’ demands.

(e)  Recommendations to improve businesses through e-commerce

E-commerce is able to help Yau Kee to enhance their business. First of all, by using e-commerce, Yau Kee is able to put up their information and details on the internet. Thus, it will be easy and convenient for the customers to look up for information regarding Yau Kee such as the food they offer and the location of the shop. Next, by making use of e-commerce, Yau Kee does not need a physical shop to operate their business. They can take orders from customers via the internet and then deliver the chicken breads to their homes. Hence, a significant amount of cost such as rental fee and insurance can be saved. Last but not least, e-commerce can improve Yau Kee’s business by making things simpler and more convenient. For example, the customers are able to make online reservations or purchase. By implementing e-commerce, Yau Kee is able to ensure a more systematic and organized flow of business.

Apart from that, E-commerce is able to help Tuck Kee to improve their business. Firstly, e-commerce enables Tuck Kee to put up their information on the internet. Hence, customers are able to search for information such as the location of the shop, their menu as well as some comments posted by other customers. Next, Tuck Kee is also able to save inventory management cost by using e-commerce. Their customers are able to place orders via the internet so Tuck Kee can plan ahead to minimize their cost to hold their inventory. Also, by making use of e-commerce, customers can make bookings or reservations at any time of the day, all year long. This way, the sales can be increased by boosting the number of orders.

Kampar Yau Kee Restaurant

<<< click here to play the sentimental music we had chosen for you when enjoying our blog. :)

We chose Yau Kee Restaurant because it is located at Kampar, Perak. This restaurant is accessible for every student in kampar whether you possess a car, a motorcycle or even a bicycle. We say this because our group have try walking to Yau Kee Restaurant from Westlake and it only takes us around 35 minutes. Yau Kee Restaurant was established since 1983 in Kampar, Perak.

It was located in Kampar old town which was once the center for commerce in Kampar before Utar kampar is built. Yau Kee Restaurant was situated at the corner along Jalan Idris which is the same row as their rival restaurant selling chicken bun- Kam Ling Restaurant. You can easily spot Yau Kee Restaurant on the way back to your hostel from the only cinema in Kampar, LFS cinema. The reason we choose Yau Kee Restaurant is because the chicken bread in Yau Kee taste better when compare with their rival Kam Ling Restaurant.

Pictures showing Yau Kee Restaurant sign, so that those interested can identify them easily.

Yau Kee restaurant is a favorite stop for many travelers who want to try the famous chicken wrapped with bread since it is a very famous food in Kampar. This restaurant also serves the typical Chinese dishes so tourist also get to fill their stomach with rice or noodle as a supplement to the chicken bun. The operating hour is opened from 7 am until 10 pm, we can come here to enjoy this specialty anytime, from breakfast to dinner.

Yau Kee restaurant has extended into two shop lots, one is with air-conditional and another is without air-conditional. The differences for this two shop lots is that one allow smoking while the other (air-conditioned) disallow smoking to ensure customer satisfaction. Hence, the ambiance is cozy as we dine in the shop with air-conditional and is not affected by cigarette smoke since all of us are non-smoker and dislike the smell of smoke. Besides that, their service is good as they serve Chinese tea for us as soon as we enter and deliver their menu to us to browse through. The staffs there are also quite friendly as they recommend us some food when realize we have difficulty making choices from the vast variety of food listed on the menu. It is a non-halal restaurant in town. This restaurant also takes reservation and welcome walk in customers.

Here is our group photo while we are having dinner in Yau Kee Restaurant.  The radiant smile of the two girls show how satisfied they are with the food provided here!

After having a brief understanding about the restaurant, we are going to introduce the prominent food in town which is Chicken Bread (CB). Chicken Bread is highly recommended because of it uniqueness and one can only find it in Kampar, Perak. For those who are into food hunt, i believe this is a chance that appear once in a blue moon for them to update their social webpage such as facebook, instagram or even blog to display proudly what they had tried in Kampar which is actually a very small town not know to those from urban areas.

Traditionally, they only serve curry chicken bread, but to suit the taste of the local Chinese and tourist, they expand their product and introduce the herbal chicken bread.  The chicken bread offered here comes in many sizes to suit the number of customers that visit the stall. For a big group of customer they can choose to order the bigger sized chicken bread while for us who come in a group of 5, we only ordered the small size which we think is sufficient. For those who cannot take spicy food, they can choose herbal chicken bread which taste equally good.

We ordered the curry chicken bread since we all like to eat curry. The chicken cooked with curry is wrapped inside a deliciously baked bread as shown in the picture above. The bread is so awesome and delicious, no wonder people say we must not miss it when we are around Kampar.

The bread is extraordinary crispy when we eat it raw since it was baked perfectly until golden brown and it look very shiny with some butter on its surface. Most of the customer will eat the bread with some curry, well this is a perfect combination as the bread absorb the curry well and become soft inside while the skin still maintain crispy. Moreover, the curry is not spicy as expected but it is still delectable as the amount of herbs mixed with chilly is done by 33 years of improving. Therefore, for those who have a younger brother or with kids, this curry chicken bread is actually suitable for everyone. Don't be restricted by kids and missed the opportunity to enjoy this scrumptious delicacy.

The chicken is wrapped in the bread and it is ready to be eaten after it is slice opened. The best thing about chicken bread is that there is no right way of eating it. The customers can either eat the bread and chicken separately or eat them together according to their preference. As it is one of the highly recommended local delicacies, our group though that it is a good idea to recommend it on our blog to help more people seeking for information about chicken bread or even Yao Kee Restaurant.

When the chicken bread is served, the staff will help us to slice open the chicken bread for us. When the staff do so, a savoury aroma of curry greet us that we could barely contain our hunger.
The video below shows how the staff slice open the chicken bread.

Now, the chicken bread is ready to be eat, the attractive red colour of the curry together with the plesant smell of curry assailling our nostrils is so tempting that we couldn't hold back anymore.
The video below show one of our group member's recommending the curry chicken bread.

Besides that, we also ordered 'Yau Kee Signature Noodle'. It is one of the popular dish in the restaurant. This noodle is full of ingredients such as fresh prawns, bean sprouts, eggs, onions and chicken slices. Judging by the look, the noodle looks alike with 'Wan Tan Mee' but it is actually more chewier and tasty as it is fried with special gravy sauce that had dissolved into the noodle. The taste is so scrumptious that it makes your mouth water when recall about it. Therefore, it is also a "must try" dishes provide to you by Yao Kee Restaurant.
Refer to the picture below to see how this 'Yau Kee Signature Noodle' looks like.

The video below shows the moment when we were savouring the signature noodles (Warning: Don't drool after watching the video).

We also get some feedback from the existing customers.
Feedback are as follow:

''The bread is extraordinary crispy when we eat it raw since it was baked perfectly until golden brown and it look very shiny with some butter on its surface.'' - Mr. Lim

"The chicken bread is very special, and it is very creative to have the curry chicken inside the bun. " - Miss Tang

"The chicken bread very attractive in the red color of the curry together with the pleasant smell of curry assailing our nostrils is so tempting that we couldn't hold back anymore. - Lee Fei Xian (one of our group members)

Most importantly, this restaurant had been recommended by a local artist name Ah Xian. Ah Xian is well known for recommending food on TV and also newspaper, so this indeed attracted lots of people to visit here especially travelers and students from Taruc and Utar. Furthermore, this restaurant has become more notable after being recommended in the newspaper numerous times.

The photo below show one of our member taking photo with the boss from Yau Kee Restaurant. He is a friendly person as we get to know more about this restaurant though him.

Moreover, Yau Kee Restaurant is also selling Curry Lamb wrap in bun, salt baked chicken and so on. Each of them has offered small and big size with different price. You also can pack chicken bread back home for friends and relatives because the chicken bread is one of  Kampar signature dish and can last for 1 day without refrigerated and 4 days if kept in a refrigerator.
The price of the chicken bread is illustrated through the picture below.

Other than chicken bread and 'Yau Kee signature noodle', there are many other choice of dishes in this restaurant. It also selling local biscuits and a variety of pastries. All of them are freshly made. After having lunch or dinner, you may have a look and you can buy back for friends and relatives. We definitely recommend visitors to come here to try this shop.

As a conclusion, we think that this restaurant is worth to try and no regret because the chicken bread is so delectable that you never tried before.

Ipoh Tuck Kee Restaurant

<<< Hope you like the music we had chosen.

Our group has selected Tuck Kee Restaurant as our blog writing in recommending food to the customers. For Utar students studying in Kampar who have own transport especially car who wanted to go further for dinner, for instance in Ipoh, we are here to provide an option which we think it might be helpful to make decision.

We choose Tuck Kee Restaurant at Ipoh because it is well-known for its noodles. Tuck Kee Restaurant has been operating for more than 50 years and it provides a wide variety of noodles. The signature dish is the hokkien “Dai Loke Mian” which means big fat noodles have a springy texture making it irresistible for noodles lovers. As our group members are all noodles fan, Tuck Kee restaurant is a must-go place.

Tuck Kee Restaurant is located at Ipoh which is in nostalgia busy street of the "mountain town". Tuck Kee restaurant is situated at the golden triangle which houses the overrated Onn Kee and Lou Wong Beansprout & Chicken Restaurant.

Before we introduced our food hunting trip in Ipoh Tuck Kee, I would like to put the group photo as the introduction of the blog. For boys (front row), starting from left is Cheah Yang Shen, Low Kai Bin and Lee Fei Xian; while for girls (back row), starting from left is Tang Jia Min and Low Le Hui.

Tuck Kee restaurant is established since 1963. It is located at Ipoh which is in nostalgia busy street of the "mountain town". Tuck Kee restaurant is situated at the golden triangle which houses the overrated Onn Kee and Lou Wong Beansprout & Chicken. It is a non-halal restaurant and the operating hour is 5 p.m onwards until late night.

For your information, there is another shop next door named Sun Tuck Kee.
The sources stated that Sun Tuck Kee is handled by the 'father' while the son inherited this former lot which has gastronomic history of few decades.
We choose Tuck Kee instead of Sun Tuck Kee, it is because Tuck Kee is famous than Sun Tuck Kee.
Besides that, Tuck Kee is operated 53 years since 1963.

This restaurant could cater to around 10 tables only but there are definitely more tables outside the restaurant which is at the roadside. Since this restaurant is not really big, you should come before 7 pm to have dinner or secure a seat because  it is many customers and you might can't get a seat. You should come slightly earlier if it is weekends.

Tuck Kee restaurant can be a dinner place or supper place for us, it is a not air-conditioned restaurant.
You can't even find a single grain of rice in this restaurant because it served very delectable fried noodles in town.
Now I would like to introduce the highly recommended noodles in this restaurant.

First of all, the must try noodles in this restaurant are War Tan Hor Fun, Yu Kong Hor, Hokkien Fried Mee Hon, Hokkien Fried Dai Loke Mian and so on. The attached menu is as below:

We need to mark our food in a order form given by the restaurant to order our food, so we can consider what to eat rather than the staff standing there waiting for us to decide what to eat.
We ordered the recommended food in the menu, it took around half an hour to get our food served.

While waiting for our food to be served, we also ordered the appetizer food which is baby octopus in soy sauce which drizzled with fried garlic oil, spring onion, and some crispy fried garlic bits accompanied with their in-house special chili sauce.

In Ipoh, we called this as "War Tan Hor" which is eggy smooth rice noodles. You seldom get the good "War Tan Hor" in Kuala Lumpur because their Hor Fun is not as good as those in Ipoh. The noodles are fried separately before adding in the eggy soup that filled with vegetables, prawns, and meat.

The Yu Kong Hor (Moonlight Flat Noodles) were fried and a raw egg cracked onto the fried kuey teow.  Upon showing a whole egg is cracked on top, thus giving the dish its name. The raw egg yolk looks like the reflection of the moon on a pool of water (egg white). The fried kuey teow should be piping hot and once you mix up with the whole dish, the raw egg will be cooked from the "heat" of the noodles. Later you just need to stir the egg and start eating like the video shown below.

The Hokkien Fried MeeHun with meat, vegetables and prawns. It is very similar to what we called Singapore Fried MeeHun. But as you can see, the Hokien Fried MeeHun is not very dry and the meehun is a little thicker.

The Hokkien Dai Look Mian deserves a personal mention which is love at first sight. The "hokkien udon" is braised to a right texture and in slight greasy dark soya sauce gravy. The flavour from the sauce is absorbed by the "Dai Look Mian".

An average of 5 noodles and one baby octopus would cost around RM 46, one serving of noodles is RM 6 exclusive Goods and Services Tax. Since the price is quite reasonable, so you wont resist the reasonably priced side dishes in this restaurant.
The video below is the feedback of this restaurant from one of our group members and also the existing customer from Tuck Kee restaurant.

We get some feedback from Tuck Kee's customers:

"The noodles are very delicious and I will definitely try again" - Madam Kwan

"The price is very reasonable and the food is very attractive especially the Yu Kong Hor." - Mr. Tan

In a conclusion, we think that the food from Tuck Kee can satisfied everything your taste buds desire. We then highly recommend the restaurant to those who visit our blog.
The food wont disappoint you and the price of the food is reasonable.
